Consumed - Week 2

2026-03-11

In Week 2 of "Consumed," Pastor Jacob Carr looks at Jonah 1 and 3 to show how God speaks through storms and messengers. Whether you are running from God or facing a "forty-day" warning, discover why repentance is the only way to find peace.

In the second week of the "Consumed" series, Student Pastor Jacob Carr continues his deep dive into the book of Jonah by examining the parallel themes of divine warning and human response. Drawing from Jonah chapters 1 and 3, Pastor Jacob illustrates how God uses both the "storms" of life and the voices of "messengers" to arrest our attention when we are in rebellion. The message highlights the contrast between Jonah—the reluctant prophet who would rather die than obey—and the pagan sailors and wicked Ninevites who responded to God with immediate desperation and repentance. Pastor Jacob challenges the audience to recognize that while God is a God of infinite grace, He is also a perfect judge whose justice necessitates consequences for sin. He warns against "halfway salvation," where one turns from sin but fails to run toward God, leaving room for old patterns to return. Ultimately, this week serves as a sobering call to action: we can no longer ignore the warnings or rely on our own ability to save ourselves. Just as God appointed a great fish to rescue Jonah from his own self-destruction, He offers a guarantee of salvation to all who are willing to give up their comfort and turn to Him.
